Synopsis

This is a relaxing but inspiring five-day writing retreat for people interested in writing memoirs, personal essays or travel articles based on personal experience.  It is designed for up to ten writers, both published and aspiring. 
The program consists of a mix of lecture, writing exercises, free writing and personal consultation, with ample opportunities to explore the area and enjoy the fine cuisine of this emerging wine country.

The Faculty

Laura Fraser (www.LauraFraser.com) is the author most recently of All Over the Map, “a winning coming-of-middle-age memoir.”  She has also written the travel memoir An Italian Affair and Losing It, an award-winning expose of the diet industry.  Laura has taught writing at UC Berkeley, SF State and at the two annual writer’s workshops in San Miguel de Allende.




In addition, participants will have the opportunity to meet and interact with authors Peter Orner (http://peterorner.net/),

Victoria Costello (www.victoriacostello.com), author, among other works, of the Complete Idiots Guide to Writing a Memoir.





The Hotel

The Tallman Hotel is located 2 1/2 hours north of San Francisco  on Highway 20 east of Ukiah .  It is a luxurious 17 room facility based around a fully restored 1890s stage stop hotel with a conference facility, large rooms and suites, gardens, a pool and hot tub.  Next to the hotel is the popular Blue Wing Saloon Restaurant.  See www.TallmanHotel.com for more information.


The Details

The Cost: $1,250 includes 5 nights lodging, breakfast, 4 dinners (including a gourmet closing dinner) and 2 lunches

Registration: To register for the program, call the Tallman Hotel at 707-275-2244 ext. 0.  Room assignments will be made on a first come first served basis.  $250 due at registration with remainder due by April 1.  Minimum 5, maximum 10 attendees. 
Writing Sample: Laura will contact all participants in advance.  A 4 to 5 page writing sample due at or prior to the program.
