"Life Into Literature", a writer's retreat

Mar 17, 2012

We are hosting a writer's retreat at the Tallman Hotel from April 22nd through the 27th which will focus on the art of creating memoirs, personal essays, and travel articles based on personal experience and therefore aptly entitled "Life Into Literature". Author Laura Fraser of San Francisco will be here leading writing lectures, workshops, and discussion panels, as well as offering one-on-one critique and support of the participants' own writing. She is joined by fellow writers Peter Orner, Tom Barbash, and Victoria Costello, all of whom are published authors and will be sharing their experiences and advice as well. We invite published and aspiring writers alike to spend a week with us and our talented hosts. Tranquility and beauty abound during springtime in Lake County and provide the perfect opportunity to gather one's thoughts, put them down on paper, and feel inspired. It won't be all work though, we also have several fun and local day-excursions planned so that you can experience even more of the beautiful and unique attractions that Lake County has to offer.

We have some of the most up-and-coming wineries in California so it will be a treat for participants to take a drive around Clear Lake to the town of Kelseyville in order to visit the tasting rooms of Wildhurst, Rosa d'Oro, and Chacewater Winery and Olive Mill. Continue to tantalize the senses and inspire the writer's mind with a trip to Ceago Vinegarden and Biodynamic Winery whose lush fields of lavender complement their award-winning wines to a degree of perfection. We do love our wines and are proud of their increasingly respected reputation in the industry. This lovely week will be concluded with a dinner prepared by the executive chef of our very own Blue Wing Saloon and paired with the Writer's Block line of wines produced by Steele Winery and introduced by winemaker Quincy Steele, also of Kelseyville. Linger over good food and good company as several members of Lake County literary groups join retreat participants for a festive conclusion to an inspired week of learning, sharing, and writing. We can accomodate up to 10 writers at the cost of $1250 each. This price offers 5 nights lodging, breakfast each morning, 2 lunches, and 4 dinners, which includes the closing night gourmet menu with wine pairings. Laura will contact all participants in advance and asks for a four to five page writing sample due at the beginning of the week. We hope to see many new faces, as we truly delight in helping new visitors to Lake County discover the serene and natural beauty of our community. Indeed we are fortunate to be located in the perfect setting for reflection and creativity so we could not be happier to share this experience.
