Great Lake County Activities Near theTallman Hotel
There’s a lot to see and do – coming, going and while you’re here – on a trip to Lake County. People are looking closer to home for fun and adventure, and we’re only 2 ½ hours from both San Francisco and Sacramento.
Wine Activities
Due to the nature of the climate and soil in Lake County, it is one of the fastest growing wine regions in California. If you're here on the first Saturday of any month, be sure to check out the monthly "Meet the Winemaker" event next door at theBlue Wing Saloon. While at the Saloon, check out our own special Blue Wing Wines made for us by winemaker Matt Hughes.
You can get a good feel for Lake County wines just by wandering across the street from the Hotel to the Lake County Wine Studio. Proprietor Susan Feiler pours a wide variety of great local wines and hosts many interesting events.

Outdoor Activities
With its beautiful lake and rolling countryside, Lake County offers abundant activities for the adventurous and inquisitive visitor. Here are links to some good ideas:
Antiques
Upper Lake is a GREAT place to stroll through town for unique antiques. Our two favorites are right next door! The red barn by the BLue Wing Saloon is home to "The Elegant Bowl" one of the greatest collections you'll ever see of authentic antique plumbing fixtures. When they're open, be sure to stop in.
The Antique Store just across the street is an extensive and truly one-of-a-kind collection of Western antiques and memorabilia. Be sure to stop in and see the inventory and the miniature Western town created by Tony and Margie Oliviera.
Other places worth a visit in town are Powell's Antiques and Gracious Ladies on Main St. and the larger Vintage Antiques at 375 E. Hwy. 20, near Judy's Diner. After visiting all the antique shops in town there are still more Antique shops in Lake County.
Also check out the new and unique Clarke's Collectibles and Lunchbox Museum at 3674 Hwy. 20 in nearby Nice. They're open Thursday thru Sunday 11:00 to 5:00.

The Lake County Land Trust offers guided Saturday morning hikes around the nearby Rodman Slough Preserve every Saturday starting at 8:00 am in the summer months and 9:00 am in the winter. The hikes start at the Rodman Slough Preserve Nature Center at Nice-Lucerne cutoff exit from Rte 29 on the road to Lakeport.
Exploring the slough by kayak can be done at anytime. Kayak launching is available at the County's Rodman Slough Park on Nice-Lucerne cutoff road, by Rodman Slough Bridge. Kayaking is a great way to see the wide variety of wildlife in the slough, including egrets, herons, muskrats, otters, geese and even Bald Eagles. For a guided tour by kayak, we suggest you contact Greg Israel of Rubicon Adventures at 707-367-3299.
